Dandelion is a flowering plant belong to Asteraceae family that is found throughout the world. They are also known as Taraxacum spp., though the most common species is Taraxacum officinalis.

 

Chemistry

Dandelion contains inulin which has been is believed to have anti-diabetic properties. Furthermore, polyphenols, total flavonoids, carotenoids (beta carotene), tocopherols, L-ascorbic acid, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin sesquiterpene lactones, traxasterol, taraxerol, calcium and vitamin K are found as content of this plant.

 

Indications

Dandelion extract applications in the health care industry are increasing due to its beneficial effects, which include anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-fibrotic properties, as well as anticancer activity. Furthermore, the extract on its own has reported showing a significant slowing effect on liver fibrosis and inducing apoptosis in pancreatic and prostate cancer cells, in scientific studies.
