Tribulus extract is made from Tribulus terrestris, which belong to the Zygophyllaceae family. It produces fruit covered with sharp spines. Rumor has it that spines are so sharp that they can even flatten bicycle tires. Due to this fact, it is also known as a puncture vine.
Tribulus terrestris contains flavonoids (kaempferol, astragalin, tribuluside, and rutin), steroidal saponins (prototribestin, dioscin, and protodioscin), alkaloids, lignan amides (tribubulusamides A, B, and C), cinnamic acid amides, and sterols inside.
Tribulus terrestris has been used in traditional Chinese and Indian medicines as an aphrodisiac. In today’s medicine, it is known for its therapeutic properties for impotence, hormonal imbalance, heart problems, sexual difficulties, kidney and skin problems.
